The work itself
Mental health nursing goes wrong when you are given a caseload you cannot carry. We cap ours. It sounds like a small policy until you are the one holding it.
You will work in the community, in acute wards and alongside crisis teams, and you will be the person a family calls at eleven at night. The work is demanding. It is also the work people describe, years later, as the thing that made them good at their job.
What you will actually do
- Carry a capped caseload with structured supervision
- Complete mental health assessments and risk management plans
- Deliver therapeutic interventions within your scope and competence
- Work alongside crisis and home treatment teams out of hours
What we need from you
- NMC registration as a Mental Health Nurse (Adult or Children)
- Experience in an acute, community or crisis setting
- Evidence of reflective practice and a working supervision routine
